Paso Robles Futures Camp 2022

This past week was a monumental week for the Paso Robles faith and sports community!

We (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) hosted an inaugural 2022 Futures Sports Camp at the Paso Robles Sports Club. The goal of this camp was for 5th-8th graders to grow athletically in their sport, relationally with other campers, and spiritually closer to God.

It was an amazing success as we had 44 campers and over 30 coaches and volunteers!

At the end of the week, we gave an invitation for the campers to respond to what they were taught and 11 campers decided to accept Jesus for the first time and 20 more rededicated their lives to Him!

Athletically

Campers chose one sport to play the entire week and were coached by high school level coaches and players. The different sports they could choose were baseball, basketball, flag-football, soccer, tennis, and wrestling.

Relationally

Campers were paired with a "huddle" the entire week where they were paired with a small group of campers and a huddle-leader who was a high school athlete. By the end of the week, these huddles were playing well together and some meaningful friendships were formed.

Spiritually

Every day the campers were also taught Biblical truths and encouraged in their faith from our camp speaker Dave Johnson of Templeton Presbyterian Church. Their high school huddle leaders then led small-group discussions and encouraged them on a personal basis.

We are looking forward to another Paso Robles Futures camp in July of 2023!

A Night With FCA 2021 Livestream and Online Auction

On December 11th, we went live on Youtube to celebrate the work God has allowed us to do in 2021! With FCA student leaders competing in minute to win it games, the room was full of laughter and live entertainment. Luke and Brandon had the pleasure of honoring a loved and faithful coach and volunteer, Tony Ramos with the Central Coast FCA Volunteer Legacy Award. Throughout the night, donors bid on auction items and gave generous donations to the ministry. We are humbled and excited to announce that we raised over $90,500 ! We are blown away by the generous giving and prayers of all our donors this year and we thank God for continuing to allow us to minister to coaches and athletes on the central coast. We can't wait to host an in-person Gala again in 2022. Stay tuned for more details!

FIELDS OF FAITH 2021 | ATASCADERO HIGH SCHOOL

We are so thankful to everyone who came out to join and partner with us this year at Atascadero High School!! Such a great night of student testimonies, worship, commitments to follow Christ, and fun.

Free pizza and group games got everyone excited to be apart of the night!

Ashlyn and Kyler from Templeton High School mc'd the event and did a great job!

Godsquad Dance Crew came out and did a great job performing!

Dave Johnson, youth pastor at Templeton Presbyterian Church gave the Gospel presentation and invitation for students to give their life to following Jesus. Five students decided to follow Jesus and 20 recommitted their lives to Jesus. Praise God!

We had youth pastors from 11 churches across north county come out with their students. Thanks to everyone who came and helped! We couldn't have done it without you all!

FCA Huddles Back on Campus

It's been amazing to be back on campus with all our central coast Huddles gathering again in person this school year! The student leaders came ready and prepared to launch their Huddles after attending the Leadership Camp in early August. Praise God that we have 20 fully running Huddles across central coast middle school, high school and college campuses. This doesn't include the Core one-on-one discipleship and team Bible studies that are meeting regularly. Covid continues to directly affect our community and it's opening doors for FCA staff, volunteers and students to share the hope of Jesus every day!

LEADERSHIP CAMP 2021

Leadership Camp at Granite Ridge

August was a busy month for FCA! In addition to hosting Futures Camp for elementary kids at Santa Maria High School, we hosted 22 FCA high school students leaders for a three day intensive leadership camp. These students came from 7 high schools across the central coast. Camp was held at the beautiful Granite Ridge Christian Camp in Creston. Our goal as staff is to equip these leaders to lead with confidence and excellence! We talked about what it means to be a follower of Jesus, how to lead a campus Huddle and we played a lot of team building games too! The weekend was a blast and huge success!

If we weren't in sessions, you could find the students playing sports to work off all their energy!

The temperature in Creston was in the high 90's all weekend! To cool off we swam in the lake and played capture the flag with water balloons. This was a highlight of the weekend!

Area Rep. Brad Zimmer led the students in a morning devotional and early hike to the cross. That was a great time of reflection and worshipping God, together!

At night, students would gather around the fire for a time to get to know each other. It was a sweet time of conversation and making new friends.

FCA FUTURES CAMP 2021 | SANTA MARIA HIGH SCHOOL

This was our first FCA Futures Camp! Inviting 5th-8th graders from the Central Coast to come train in sports and learn, know and grow in relationship with Jesus. What a blast this week was, from day one the kids were ready to have fun! Over 50 volunteer coaches and high school students (huddle leaders) gave their time to these athletes, training them in soccer, baseball, softball, wrestling and basketball. A huge thank you to Santa Maria High School for allowing us to use their facilities for the entire week.

On Wednesday, Luke spoke and gave the Gospel presentation to the athletes. What a powerful time to witness God open the hearts of kids who outwardly professed to trusting and following Jesus! This is what camp is all about!!

10TH ANNUAL FCA GOLF CLASSIC 2021

This year was Central Coast FCA's 10th year of hosting the golf classic! We are blown away by the support and generosity of our community. We maxed out at 143 golfers, 36 foursomes and saw some great competition on the green. Thank you to all our golfers, sponsors and volunteers who gave generously of their time and resources to make this year's event a success. We are excited to announce that the tournament raised over $23,000. These funds will directly impact the lives of coaches and athletes on the central coast.

Check-in is always a great time to meet new golfers and catch up with coaches, former students and parents playing in the tournament.

This year's raffle basket and items went home with 12 lucky golfers. Thank you so much to Ginny Barnett and Sandy Nichols for their generosity and hard work in making these baskets.

FCA IN THE PARK: TRAIN THE BODY, TRAIN THE MIND, TRAIN THE HEART

Now that school has started back up online and students are on a screen much of the day we talked with the city and decided to launch FCA IN THE PARK. It has been a blast! Being mindful of these athletes need for physical health but also mental and emotional health it has been great to give them a place were they and see their peers, exercise outside and participate in encouraging faith oriented conversations each week. We have been meeting at parks across the county to play pick up sports, eat snacks or pizza and participate in a discovery Bible study. It's been encouraging to see the athletes show up weekly and meet new faces as kids join us from the surrounding neighborhoods!

Such an incredible week at UCLA with athletes, coaches, huddle leaders and staff from across the Western Region. 130 athletes made a first time commitment to follow Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord & 460 campers rededicated their lives to Christ this week! We were able to send 14 athletes from the Central Coast to camp on scholarship and two of them made a first time commitment to follow Christ! We also sent a track clinician, wrestling huddle leader, 5 staff, and one college intern to serve at camp. It was a life changing week for all of us and awesome to see God move in athletes lives!

The day after camp ended, the US Women’s National Soccer Team won the World Cup! It was an awesome week working with the next generation of women’s soccer stars at UCLA.

We had 230 football athletes this year that got to play hard, have fun, and grow in their relationship with the Lord.

30 incredible beach volleyball athletes worked on their skills and faith with their FCA coaches and clinicians!

Boys tennis was out on the courts working hard all throughout camp. We are proud of all the work they poured out this week!

Brandon Muchow and his band led these athletes in some amazing worship every night after practice during our evening program.

We are excited and committed to following up with these athletes throughout this school year through team Bible studies, campus huddles and church partnerships in our local communities.

This event was a wonderful opportunity to see both new and returning faces in the community show their love for Christ and sports as well. FCA Huddles | Spring 2019

This past season we have been wonderfully blessed to mentor and encourage fellowship in a number of high schools here on the Central Coast. Getting to meet with these students once a week during their lunch break and enjoy some good pizza with them, has been a huge blessing for everyone at FCA. Among the many memories that have been made and knowledge that has been gained, we thought we might share a few photos from some of these huddles. In the picture above is group photo from our last huddle at Mission Prep High School.

Chris Baptista, Assistant D1 track coach at California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo, got the opportunity to speak at local high school, SLO High. Students were blessed to hear about what it means to get in the game and off the bench in terms of serving our God. He stressed that even if we get off the bench and fail, God's grace will always be there for us.

Here we have a photo from Templeton High School where students got to hear from their own teacher, Mrs. Breffle, about her testimony and journey back to Jesus. After sharing a personal story about how a serious car accident she was in shaped her relationship with God, she taught the students that it is never too late to come back to Christ.

Here we have photo form Arroyo Grande High School where our speaker, Logan Wais, had the opportunity to pray over the students that they would finish the school year strong and remember to keep Christ at the center of their lives.

For our last photo, we have a picture of the students at Mission Prep High School playing a game of spike ball to blow off some steam from end-of-the-year school stresses and celebrate a great year of FCA huddles!

FCAIA at Cal Poly | 2019

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Action at Cal Poly has had a fruitful 2018-19 year. It has been filled with restructuring our methods of ministry, students coming to know the Lord or re-dedications, and a need to expand our staffing. We are excited to share some of our "God Stories" with you.

As we approached the 2018-19 school year, we started asking the Lord to help us develop new structures within the ministry in hopes of expanding our capacity for discipleship. As we sought the Lord, it seemed like we kept returning to the idea of "team studies". This idea of pouring into student leaders, who would in return pour into their peers seemed to match the biblical model of discipleship. We started the year with a simple goal and prayer of identifying two students that we could train to start studies on their team. As we prayed for the Lord to identify and bring to us student leaders, we were overwhelmed with what He had in store. As the year is coming to a close we have 9 studies! Wow! Did He go above and beyond what we had dreamed or imagined. We had a Football Study, Baseball Study, Mens Soccer Study, Coaches Study, Women Soccer Study, Tennis Study, Indoor Volleyball Study, Sand Volleyball Study, and Women's Study.

At our training the girls were able to share their highs and lows of leading and share their big "God Stories" of the year. All of us walked away realizing God is alive and on the move at Cal Poly campus! We are excited to share some of these stories below about the Tennis Study, Baseball Study, and the Girls Soccer Study.

Tennis God Story

We met with one our tennis girls at the beginning of the year. She wanted to start a Bible study for her team. We started praying and as she stepped out in faith God honored it. Here is a picture of her study eating dinner at our house. Five of the eight girls on the tennis team have been regularly coming to the study. One of them gave her life to the Lord. As we did our study over dinner, the new believer stopped us and said, "I"m very new to this. Can you please explain to me what prayer is and how I do it?" God has been using this faith step to change the dynamic and eternal direction of the tennis team.

Baseball God Story

At the begging of the year we got an email from one of the senior baseball players who wanted to come back to the Lord and start a study for his team. He was the only one he knew walking with the Lord on his team. The first three or four studies no one showed up, but we kept praying. God heard and answered. Now there are 5 or 6 guys coming to the study, and some who are atheist just wanting to explore the Christian faith.

It has been neat to see Bobby go on to have one of his best pitching season yet!

Women's Soccer God Story

Last year one of our seniors was intentionally pouring into six freshman, and as she was getting ready to graduate we started praying that God would raise someone up to continue mentoring and pouring into these girls. That week a coach contacted us and told us she felt God had been laying on her heart to start a study for the girls. The picture above shows the transition of saying goodbye to our Senior leader to Coach. Coach began holding a study at her house and 12-5 girls would show up each time. It's been amazing to see God use a coach to help many of these girls in their faith walk.

As we look back at the 2018-19 year we are amazed at all that God has done. He is always faithful to show up! Please join us in praying for our Team Studies and their leaders that God would continue to lead, grow and reach new believers. Also pray that God would help us identify a full-time staff that can really dedicate the time needed to grow this ministry!

FCA GOLF CLASSIC | Cypress Ridge Golf Club

This year, the weather on the Central Coast has been exceptionally rainy! After days of tracking weather reports, our tournament was postponed a week. Thankfully, God provided us an incredible day at Cypress Ridge with old and new friends. Over 100 golfers showed up for some friendly competition on the green to support FCA, helping us raise over $20,000! The FCA staff and committee members felt so much love and support from the community and cannot wait for next years tournament!
